Between Explosion and Inscription

Impact and Ink brings together two artistic positions that appear radically opposed, yet converge in a compelling dialogue: Andreas Streicher’s explosive, gestural paintings and Yuko’s contemplative works rooted in the tradition of Suminagashi.

Streicher’s large-scale acrylic works on canvas emerge from a physical, high-energy process in which paint is not simply applied but forcefully inscribed into the pictorial space. His compositions capture the moment of impact—pigment bursts, disperses, and collides—making visible the tension between control and chance. Color becomes event, a trace of action frozen in time.

In contrast, Yuko’s large-scale depictions of trees, created using Suminagashi on silk mounted on canvas, unfold through fluidity and restraint. This ancient Japanese technique of “floating ink” allows organic patterns to form on water before being transferred onto the surface. Her tree forms—reminiscent of growth rings, veins, or currents—evoke natural rhythms, time, and quiet transformation.

Within the tension of impact and ink, the exhibition explores fundamental painterly questions: gesture versus process, intervention versus surrender, force versus flow. Despite their differences, both practices embrace unpredictability, allowing material and movement to co-author the work.

In this interplay of explosive energy and meditative flow, Impact and Ink reveals painting as a field of transformation—where destruction and growth, control and chance, are not opposites, but intertwined forces.
