In her latest series of works, the artist Mona Kiefer confronts us with the existential primal forces of becoming and passing away. At the heart of her artistic exploration lies a material that, like almost no other, symbolises the inexorable transformation of time: real rust.
Through the deliberate oxidation of iron particles on the canvas, Kiefer breaks with the supposed static nature of painting. Her works are not fixed snapshots; they live, breathe and are in a state of continuous chemical and conceptual change. Here, the rust manifests itself in deep, earthy crusts – a visual sediment of time that marks the inevitable end point of a cycle, which in the very next moment already carries within it the seed of new creation.
Circle of Life explores life and the seasons – an eternal cycle, captured in the raw poetry of metamorphosis.
