L'Heure Du Goûter

The exhibition was inaugurated at Appartement Monbazillac as part of a private concert evening with renowned New York Broadway pianist Peter Larsen on September 6.
This is the first solo exhibition of Maxima Maria Kinsky, the 9-year-old and youngest artist of Galerie HMH. During her artist residency at Château de Monbocher, she was inspired by the French tradition of le goûter – the sweet hour between 4 and 5 p.m., dedicated to a little afternoon treat.
At Château de Monbocher, this tradition is lovingly upheld by the château’s owner – but instead of cakes or biscuits, ice cream is served: on a stick or in a cone. This unusual and delightfully summery version of the goûter immediately captured Maxima’s imagination – ice cream being her absolute favorite.
Her 17 monotypes are conceived as a series, each one a new, sensitive play of form and color. In delicate violets, lilacs, and sorbet shades, Maxima reinterprets the motif of ice cream again and again – sometimes on a stick, sometimes in a cone.
The remarkable maturity of these works is striking: they reveal an abstract clarity and artistic rigor one might expect from an adult artist, while remaining full of lightness and joy.
Maxima’s debut solo exhibition thus becomes a poetic invitation to relive the delight of the afternoon, the wonder of childhood, and the pleasure of this unique château goûter.
Following the exhibition, five works will remain permanently in the Château de Monboucher Collection.
