Peter Kohl

Born in 1971, Peter Kohl lives and works in Austria. Initially, he was a self-taught painter. In 1997, he met the Carinthian artist Luka Anticevic, who brought him to the Institute for Art and Philosophy in Carinthia as a student. There, he studied until 2000, specializing in portrait and landscape painting. He completed his printmaking training (etching) under Hansjürgen Gartner.

At first glance, Peter Kohl's paintings seem to resemble children's drawings. However, this impression is deceptive – Kohl develops his subjects into elaborate artworks on multiple levels.

Peter Kohl is the director of the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Klagenfurt and teaches painting and printmaking there.
