SALT AND SKIN

JUDITH STURM | SALT AND SKIN – A RETROSPECTIVE | WORKS FROM 2008 - 2025

Solo exhibition

Exhibition dates: 18.11.2025 - 31.12.2025 | Artist Talk: 05.12.2025 from 3pm - 4pm

This exhibition presents a comprehensive retrospective of artist Judith Sturm, whose work has been defined for more than fifteen years by a distinctive technical and aesthetic signature. Her paintings reveal fragments of the human body, seaside atmospheres, the quiet rhythm of sky and water, and striking figures that appear suspended between presence and serenity.

At the heart of Sturm’s practice lies her unique acrylic–salt ground technique: an experimental underlayer made of acrylics and salt that generates organic, vibrant surface textures. This ground becomes the living skin of each work. Sturm continues in oil, building shapes and colour with precision while allowing the tactile structure beneath to remain visible. Especially on areas depicting skin, the surface comes alive—breathing, shimmering, and creating a sense of depth that shifts with the light.
